About the Author
Richard Dawkins, Emeritus Fellow of New College, Oxford, is one of the most influential science writers and communicators of our generation. He was the first holder of the Charles Simonyi Chair of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford, a position he held from 1995 until 2008, and is Emeritus Fellow of New College, Oxford. His bestselling books include The Extended Phenotype (1982) and its sequel The Blind Watchmaker (1986), River Out of Eden (1995), Climbing Mount Improbable (1996), Unweaving the Rainbow (1998), A Devil's Chaplain (2004), The Ancestor's Tale (2004), and The God Delusion (2007). Dawkins at this best. Great book.

Great classic and an amazing book.
Richard Dawkins is an amazing author and scientist and his ideas, especially considering the time the book was written, are impressive.
I discovered this book after reading Genome, by Matt Ridley (another great book), and was pleasantly surprised by Richard Dawkins writing style, his ideas (I was blown away by the Meme idea) and how he explains them. In this book, the gene, is the central character, and Dawkins explains how evolution and adaptations have the objective of replicating and perpetuating such self-replicating entities. In this context bodies are survival machines used only to help with the process of replicating and perpetuating the genes.
The audiobook for the book, read by Dawkins himself and his wife Lala Ward, is also amazing and I really recommend it.

Great book for laymen and experts

How has this got only two reviews? This book is excellent, truly one of Dawkins best works (a close second to The God Delusion). This editions epilogue is glorious (sad to know that there probably won't be a 50th year anniversary one written by Richard) anybody who wants to learn about evolution should definitely read this!
