About the Author
ZaZa Ali is a Mother, Teacher, Activist, Radio Personality, and Author. Her first novel, entitled Black Matters, Volume One - The Scientific Intervention in Our Affairs, was released in May of 2015. Volume Two - Plagues of Dysfunction, is set to be released September 28, 2015. A frequent speaker on behalf of women and children, ZaZa has spoken in venues ranging from juvenile detention centers to Universities. Her topics range from "The War on Black Women", to "The Scientific Intervention in Our Affairs - Surviving a Genetically Modified Society". She is most well know for her consistent blogs dealing with social injustices & shedding light on the plight of Black America. Her articles & interviews have been featured in websites such as Uganda goes online, World News, Your Black World, and lipstick alley. She has become a major force on social media, using her voice to implement programs to financially assist business owners, as well as privately owned and operated schools. ZaZa started teaching at-risk youth in California in 2010. Being a witness to oppression, inequality, poverty and social injustice is what inspired her to begin her journey. She hopes that readers will come away with a better understanding of the who, what, when, where, why and how's - that have aided to the reality of modern Black suffrage. She stresses that Black America needs to adequately study the system of racism which lends to white supremacy, as well as take responsibility for where they are today to improve their position not only in America, but globally as well.

EYE OPENING!!!

I have read this book and it is AWESOME!!! In this age of social media, we as black people sometimes forget the basics. We neglect our health, we are out of touch with nature, and we just aren't aware of what is going on around us. This book sheds light on subjects like what chemicals are in the foods we eat and what poisons are in some of these shots and vaccines that we take everyday. This is a must read for anyone that wants to be informed about what is happening to black people around the world. I can't wait for volume two!!!

I purchased this book last week and couldn't put it down - this book is absolutely awesome; extremely informative and very well written. It contains crucial information that everyone needs be made aware today, especially us Black people. I'm ordering several copies to circulate among family, friends, and others - allots a week to read, then keep the books in circulation. I appreciate your work, research and all that has gone in creating this great work. I personally prophesize to be on the New York Times bestseller's list. Now, it's time for a re-read. WOW!

Thank goodness I only rented this book from the library...

Before anyone gets confused, I am not Scott Whitelaw that is my dad, and I am a 18 year old girl.

I have no idea why this book got such a high rating. I usually give fantasy books a little bit of lee-way in their mistakes since it can be hard to create a unique world that doesn't echo our own too much. Not only is the world unimaginative, with places with names such as "The Mountain", but the character are unrelatable, the plot not fully explained or developed, and the dialogue can be stilted with gaps missing in the conversations that make following them confusing.

The main conflict of the novel is about a special dance that will determine the fate of the kingdom but the dance is not explained fully and I spent most of my time wondering what is was and why should I care.

The main character is bland and doesn't change much throughout the novel. She is almost 16 and seems to be addicted to sex. Don't get me wrong, I'm not averse to a few well written sex scenes in a book, but the author's scenes were brief, meaningless, and poorly written. Here is a short summary of the main character's love life. She is almost raped, then she meets a evil barbarian dude who she knows she shouldn't like but still thinks he's hot anyways so she has sex with him for every night for about 4 months. she is taken prisoner by said evil barbarian but she still has sex with him, multiple times, and apparently likes it. then she realizes that she is in love with her teacher who is years older than her and whom she hates with a passion for no reason that is ever explained in the book. she has sex with him twice even though he is on the brink of death. Then she has sex with the evil barbarian dude and still likes it and soo on and so on.

So in conclusion all I have to say is DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. I actually finished the book after 3 weeks of putting it up and down and I wish I hadn't. It doesn't EVER get better.

A wonderful, intricate mind-rush

I took a chance on this book based on the reviews here and on the RomanticSF website. I'm really glad I did. Having not read any Judith Tarr books I prepared to be pleasantly surprised, or at least place this in my 'to sell as a used book' pile.

Pleasantly surprised is not the half of it. From the very beginning one is drawn into an intricately shaped and wonderfully formed world where the magic of horses, power, inner strength and individuality in the face of adversity is approached from an intelligent, interesting and otherworldly viewpoint. There were times in the tale where I found myself wishing I could be Valeria for the day so I could experience this all first hand - the characters are that realistic and enjoyable to read.

At times, as non-prudish as I thought myself, the love and torture scenes were so well written and emphatically crafted into the story at such excellently timed points in the tale, that I was reminded in a positive eye-opening way that what I was reading was a very adult, but yet magical and powerful tale of fantasy - so different from some other fantasy tales, which are often de-sexed or de-clawed when it comes to the realities that some of the characters in the stories face. Don't get me wrong, this isn't pornographic or graphic in horror proportions. The 3rd person narrator just tells it like it is, but with such craftsmanship that you can't help but empathise with the characters' situation in the story. Excellently written.

Definitely a tale to read when you want to be drawn into a superbly crafted, magical, wonderfully intricate fantasy tale that will have you looking at the world quite differently when you have finished reading it. I look forward to the second book. Refreshing, interesting and a very good read. Highly recommended.

Could Have Been a LOT Better

I had high hopes for this book. I still like the premise and the basic plot line of the novel: a girl gets "called" to join the exclusive Riders, who have previously all been male. Her struggles begin by simply getting to the Riders, to being trained and accepted as a Rider, to an international plot to destroy the kingdom. All these elements of the plot, I didn't mind. I enjoyed it actually. But, somewhere along the way, I feel that Brennan became too caught up with the sexuality of her main character, Valeria.

From the middle of the book to the end, it seems that every few pages she's having sex - and with 2 men at that. In one part, she goes from sleeping with one man then to the next practically during the same day. I'm not a prude or anything (I hope!), the moments of sex aren't too explicit, but I've never liked a heroine to tosses herself from one man to the next. She seems to have absolutely no control over her physical needs. In another seen, she sleeps with one of her lovers on the floor while her other lover is unconscious in the bed next to her! I'm sorry, but... Ugh! She knows one of her lovers is in a plot to destroy everything she's been taught to believe in... but he visits her and they have sex. EVERY TIME. The amount of sex and the awkward situations (like those previously mentioned) caused to me gradually lose respect in Valeria. She began to irritate me. Her responses seemed to grow more and more unrealistic - and if one would argue that it COULD be realistic, Valeria would not be someone that I would want to know or read about.

I don't have anything against the protagonists, uh.. "enjoying" themselves - but when these interludes grow in number to rival the plot... well, you have to draw the line somewhere. After awhile all I could think about was how utterly and completely horny Valeria was. Not a good thought for the supposed "savior" of the country.

About the Author

Dale Carnegie was an American self-improvement lecturer and author. Born in 1888, Carnegie was the son of a farmer, and worked throughout his childhood helping his parents with various tasks on the farm. He was fortunate, however, in that he was able to obtain an education in his young adulthood at a nearby Teacher s College. Carnegie worked as a salesman and an actor before he took up teaching public speaking courses at a New York YMCA branch, where he was living at the time. Carnegie s public speaking career took off, and through his success he was able to have several of his books published. His first book, Public Speaking: a Practical Course for Business Men sold well, but his most impressive achievement was the publication of his book How to Win Friends and Influence People, which was an immediate bestseller when it was published in 1936, and has gone on to sell millions of copies in thirty-one languages. Carnegie also worked to open the Dale Carnegie Institute, a learning-ground for those interested in his public speaking and self-improvement techniques, and Dale Carnegie courses are still taught today. Carnegie died of Hodgkin s Disease on November 1, 1955.

Fabulous resource!

I have read other books by Dale Carnegie on public speaking, and this book, TIPS FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING, is different from those other books. At the beginning of this book, TIPS FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING, Dale Carnegie tells how he changed from a "Ninety-Eight Pound Weakling" of public speaking to the "Mr. America" of public speaking. The chapters cover every kind of speech you would ever want to make: The Convincing Speech, The Humorous Speech, The Well-Delivered Speech, The Attractive Speech, The Distinctive Speech, The Popular Speech, The Interesting Speech, The Impressive Speech, and The Decisive Speech. He also tells you how to prepare the speech, open and close an address, and handle the audience. Carnegie gives lots of examples for every point he makes, so it is easy to grasp the concepts. It was a pleasure reading this book. Also, the TIPS are numbered consecutively throughout the book, so you can either read the book from start to finish, or "dip in" wherever you want. I highly recommend this book!

Too much generalities, no specific directions about simple sprouting of sunflower seed and broccoli seed sprouting. Had to experiment on my own to find the answer. I am getting great results, no thanks whatsoever to this book.

Truly a Wonderful and Complete Book on Sprouting

This is a great book for a person who is interested in sprouting; it is very detailed and is truly full of very interesting and useful information. The book also helps to nullify a lot of the myth about toxins and hidden dangers in sprouts. The real dangers, in actuality, exist in cooked, processed, adulterated, toyed-with, sprayed, chemicalized, distorted foods (which our grocery shelves are full of). I am now 50 years old. Back in my youthful college days, I used to sprout a great deal, eating living foods exclusively. Though I stayed being a vegetarian, I got back into the cooked food craze... eating food like it was a drug for "taste" only. I work with the multiply handicapped and even though I am a teacher I have to do a lot of lifting (of adults who are not at all feather-weight). My arthritis (which runs in the family) was killing me, despite taking all kinds of natural and man made supplements. Getting back to live food was the answer I needed. Steve's book was inspirational and very helpful. I should have never deviated from what was truly the most nutritious way to eat!
There are many ways of sprouting. I happen to like the sproutpeople.com sprouters best of all. Steve's book is a priceless tool for anyone interested in sprouting... it has all kinds of neat tips and suggestions.
Also, one suggests doing a web search on Dr. Budwig's Diet... as most people are seriously deficient in essential fatty acids of the proper type. I take my oil with a little bit of live yogurt.
Anyway... I would not want Steve's book, including his Kitchen Garden book... missing from my shelves!
As Hippocrates said: "Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food."

What a wonderful series!

I have been reading and re-reading the Elsie series since I was seven or eight. They have been so encouraging to me, powerful stories of a young girl who had her whole heart set on God's will for her through sadness and joy. To this day, whenever I read them I am encouraged to follow Him even more and to develop the perseverance she has. These books will both amuse and entertain you and strengthen your faith in Christ. I have never read about any other fiction character that has impacted my life more than Elsie. I recommend these books for girls 8+, and even adults! All ages can be touched by these wonderful stories of faith, endurance, and love.

If you love to read series books than Elsie is for you! Her troubles get so sad sometimes but it always turns out okay in the end. She is a strong Christian girl and I love these books so very much. I looked at the other ones about Elsie Dinsmore that aren't like this (they are paperback ) and they were different.Not as easy to read or fun. Read all of them, but when is Book 5 coming out! Thanks!
