About the Author
Shawnee began writing the first book in the series in early 2010. Drawing on inspiration from her life abroad, as well as, her time in the Goth subculture of the ’80s and ’90s,Watcher was published in February 2012. Protector, the follow up book in The Shining Ones series is out now. She is currently working on several projects including Betrayer, the third book in The Shining Ones series, and a book of short stories based on ’80s hits. Awesome Series - just keeps getting better!

The first thing I would say is that I think the author has matured a bit between writing these 2 books. The writing feels more concise, tighter, like she had a better handle on where the story was going. That, along with finally finding out who the Tybee Ripper is, makes this book the better of the 2. I understood that the author had planned a series and so it was unlikely we would see the payoff until the end of this book, but what an ending! Of course, there are still tons of questions to be answered that are driving me crazy - but that's the thing with series - I need to learn patience. I am still on the fence about Adam Walker and whether or not he's going to en up being the good guy or the bad guy, but I think that's because the author is intentionally keeping him vague on purpose. We're also starting to see Poesy "wake up" a bit and take more control of her situation. Her and Birdie's relationship is still killing me, but that's the fun -are they or aren't they? We better get and answer to that soon! Overall, I have enjoyed my time on this series. I'm looking forward to the next book, Betrayer, even though the author stated on her blog that it won't be out until 2017.

Fast-paced sequel to Watcher

So much happened in this fast-paced sequel to Watcher. Protector is full of new revelations about both Poesy and Adam and their intertwined and intense relationship. Although most of the action revolves around the mysterious Adam, there’s something about supporting character Birdie that definitely draws me in. Like another reviewer here, I just might be Team Birdie. The action in Protector builds to a confrontation that will surely lead to serious repercussions for Poesy and those closest to her. Can't wait for the next book to come out!

The continuing saga

Protector continues from where Watcher finished... We learn more about Adam and there's a new protector... Things take some strange turns and we're left hanging at the end of the book wondering how it will all resolve itself. Awaiting book 3!
