Excellent treatment of the 21 verses in Obadiah

At first glance this commentary does not seem very lengthy, but when one looks closer, it is easily noticeable that the book of Obadiah is only 21 verses long. A decent commentary for a book containing only 21 verses will not likely exceed what Block presents in this volume (to exceed this by any significant number would constitute theological "fluff" and be an overkill). Other commentaries such as the NITOT give Obadiah only 45 pages (including the title page). This work is 128 pages, and in my opinion, 128 pages of commentary for a book of the Bible that is only 21 verses in length is good. This volume is not short-changed by any means, and it is not overly lengthy. It does an adequate job of presenting the author's arguments. I found the background information provided in this work to be helpful and beneficial to getting a clearer picture of the text itself. The feature of this commentary I appreciated the most is how it breaks down each pericope and offers a main idea based off the author's translation of the Hebrew text. Block's scholarship and work (such as his commentary on Ezekiel) is superb, and, as a result, I had high expectations for this work. He did not disappoint - I was pleased with the purchase, and this is a welcome addition to my library.

Solid and Helpful Commentary

This is the first Old Testament commentary in this series that I have used. I really like the New Testament volumes, so I was pleased to find an Old Testament commentary in the same commentary family. It was very helpful in preparing to preach Obadiah. All of the textual and historical issues are dealt with, and the theological reasoning is sound. I'll definitely purchase other commentaries in this series.

Nice Little Commentary on a Little OT Book.

I love the NT version of this commentary and so thought I would give the OT a try with Obadiah. It's a bit short, not sure it's worth the $20 I spent on it in that regard, but this is an excellent little commentary on the shortest book of the OT. Would I buy it again? Probably.
